Explore Salento

Out the door, up the valley.

Six ways into Quindío, checked against official pages, operators’ own sites and recent reporting. Nothing here is run by the hostel — reception helps you plan, and you book with the people who actually run it.

  • Saddles, rivers and a waterfall in Boquía

  • Hills, unpaved lanes and coffee country

    Bikes & coffee countryside

The hostel lists bike rental (extra charge). Salento sits at about 1,900 m and the roads out of town drop and climb hard — plan a route with reception and ride within your limits.

  • Frailejones, páramo and the Paramillo del Quindío

Los Nevados & the high páramo

Beyond Cocora rises Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados: páramo, frailejones and peaks around 4,750 m. Entry is only with a registered guide or agency — serious mountain terrain, not a day stroll.

Before any day out

  • Weather turns fast

Two rainier seasons (around April–May and October–November); rain is possible any day. Pack a waterproof.

  • Sun at altitude

UV is strong at 1,900 m and above, even under cloud: hat and sunscreen.

  • Carry cash

Jeeps and farm entrance fees are usually paid in cash, in pesos.

  • Signal drops

Download an offline map before trails and rural veredas.

Questions

Does The Corner House run any of these tours?

No. The hostel has a tour desk and helps guests plan and book, but the trips are run by independent operators. No partnership is published.

Where do I catch the jeep to Cocora?

In Plaza de Bolívar, about a block from the hostel. Shared jeeps usually leave when full; confirm times and fares in the square.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof and shoes with real grip — Cocora’s trails get muddy. Add warm layers for anything above 3,000 m.

Can I go to Los Nevados without a guide?

No — Parques Nacionales requires a registered (REPSE) guide or agency and accident insurance for every visit, booked at least five business days ahead.
